Het is Infiniti niet gelukt de Q50 geheim te houden tot de lancering. Gisteren dook er een beeld op van de Infiniti-website waarop de nieuwe berline te zien is.

Veel van verwacht, toch een tegenvaller op deze foto's. Net zoals bij de Lexus IS, overdesigned. Die holle muil (ook net zoals bij de Lexus) verpest heel de voorkant en die vloeibare Hofmeisterknik is een doorn in m'n oog. Het interieur doet me denken aan een Hyundai en die lijn in de middenconsole van de BMW 6. Gaat hier niet veel potten breken zo volgens mij.

No word yet on engines, but if Infiniti want to actually make a mark in Europe, then they need a competent diesel engine. The car will probably get the Renault-sourced 3.0-liter unit, but a smaller one is also required, for the car to appeal to company car buyers, who have most likely avoided it up until now.

Een v6 diesel van renault, en dat voor € 25.000 full option ;-)

DETROIT- Infiniti today unveiled the all-new 2014 Infiniti Q50 luxury sports sedan at a press conference at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Infiniti Motor Company Ltd. President Johan de Nysschen and Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura presented the dramatically styled Q50, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers in the United States and Canada in summer 2013.
"This morning we are about to launch Infiniti on a bold new journey, a new Infiniti brand direction built on a foundation of our past and guided by a clear vision for the future," said de Nysschen. "And it starts right here today with the new Infiniti Q50, a vehicle that clearly crystalizes the design, performance and technology direction for a new generation of Infiniti vehicles."

The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is the centerpiece of the Infiniti display at the NAIAS, which runs from Jan. 19th through the 27th at Detroit's Cobo Center. Also featured at the Infiniti exhibit is the complete line of 2013 Infiniti cars and SUVs, along with an Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula One race car.
The all-new Infiniti Q50 takes many of its seductive styling cues from the Infiniti Essence concept, with a tight, athletic appearance that blends low, wide proportions with excellent interior roominess. Inside, the Q50 interior offers a driver-centric cockpit with an array of premium comfort and convenience features, including the new Infiniti InTouch™ communications system with large dual touch-screens.
"We challenged ourselves with this new Infiniti Q50 to take another great leap in terms of proportion, Infiniti-ness and premium quality. It presents a new benchmark of Infiniti's sedan leadership," said Nakamura.
The 2014 Infiniti Q50 will be available with a choice of a refined 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 or new Q50 Hybrid featuring Infiniti's Direct Response Hybrid System™ with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control. Both powertrains will be offered with rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
Two new world's first production performance technologies make their debuts in the Q50 - Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering™ technology and Active Lane Control™. The new steering system allows advanced control of the Q50's tire angle and steering inputs, transmitting the driver's intentions to the wheels faster than a mechanical system. Four different steering settings are offered, allowing customization by driver preference or road conditions. The Active Lane Control™ uses a camera-based lane marker detection system to further enhance on-center driving capability.
Infiniti recently reported a year-over-year U.S. sales increase of 21.8 percent for 2012, pointing to a strong sales forecast for the brand in 2013. Infiniti is currently sold in nearly 50 countries worldwide and is expanding its production base to three continents.

Wel een zware benzine motor voor de hybride. Ik vrees dat ze hiermee niet in het vaarwater van de nieuwe IS300h gaan geraken met de huidige CO²-craze .. eerder een GS450h concurrent ... de prijs zal de doorslag moeten geven denk ik ...

Valt langs de buitenkant al veel beter mee dan op de eerste foto's. Een lichtere kleur staat hem precies beter.
Maar interieur daarentegen lijkt me al gedateerd.

Viercilinder dieselmotor voor Infiniti Q50

Met gepaste trots presenteert Infiniti in Genève haar eerste Q-model. Het model betreft geen wereldprimeur, maar dat geldt wel voor de komst van een dieseluitvoering. En die is hard nodig voor een succesvolle lancering in Europa.

´Dit is ons meest op Europa gefocuste line-up ooit´, zegt Johan de Nysschen, President Infiniti Motor Company Ltd. Het Japanse luxemerk probeert al jaren een voet aan de grond te krijgen in Europa en hoopt dat met de nieuwe Q50 eindelijk te bereiken. De introductie van de nieuwe dieselkrachtbron is dan ook (eindelijk) een slimme zet.

Mercedes-diesel
De kakelverse Infiniti Q50 kennen we overigens al van de NAIAS in Detroit waar de sportsedan begin dit jaar werd onthuld. De Autosalon van Genève vormt echter het debuut van Infiniti’s eerste viercilinder-dieselmotor. Deze geblazen krachtbron heeft een inhoud van 2.143 cc en is het eerste resultaat van de samenwerking die moederbedrijf Renault-Nissan heeft met Daimler AG waaronder Mercedes-Benz valt. Dezelfde dieselmotor vinden we bijvoorbeeld ook terug in de C- en E-klasse en levert een keurige 170 pk en 400 Nm. Daarmee is de Q50 in staat om binnen negen seconden vanuit stilstand de 100 km/h te passeren en een topsnelheid van 230 km/h te behalen. Of deze prestaties in combinatie met de handgeschakelde zesbak of de eveneens leverbare zeventraps automaat zijn, laat het persbericht in het midden.

Wel of geen 20% bijtelling
Vlotte prestaties zijn één, maar een zuinig karakter is tegenwoordig evenzo belangrijk. Gelukkig is dat wel toevertrouwd aan de Q50-diesel. Het gemiddelde verbruik komt namelijk uit op 4,4 l/100 km, een meer dan keurige waarde voor een auto van dit formaat. Daarbij meldt het merk dat de CO2-uitstoot onder de 115 g/km blijft. Mocht deze waarde wellicht op of onder 112 g/km uitkomen, dan heeft dit positieve gevolgen voor Nederlandse leaserijders in de vorm van 20% bijtelling. Laten we het hopen, maar we vrezen van niet.
